How Japanese straightening works, step by step

Consultation & strand test
We read your curl pattern, previous colour or relaxer history, porosity and breakage risk. A strand test tells us how your hair reacts before anything is applied to the whole head. If your hair isn't a safe candidate that day, we say so and suggest keratin instead.

Cleanse & thermal reconstructor
A clarifying wash removes buildup so the solution can work evenly. A protein reconstructor is applied to porous mid-lengths and ends so the chemistry lands consistently from root to tip.

Softening (cysteine bond break)
The straightening cream is applied section by section and timed to your hair's strength — not to a stopwatch. This is the stage most damage happens elsewhere; we check strand elasticity throughout instead of leaving it processing.

Flat-iron restructuring
Hair is dried and pressed in fine sections at a controlled temperature. This is the step that sets the new straight configuration, so section size, tension and heat matter more than speed.

Is Japanese hair straightening the same as a relaxer or keratin?
No. A relaxer strips the hair to loosen curl and a keratin treatment coats and smooths it temporarily. Japanese straightening (also called thermal reconditioning or Magic straight) permanently restructures the bonds inside the hair, so the treated length stays straight until it grows out.
