Tight curls become smooth, manageable hair.

Drag the handle to compare. This client came in with a tight, resistant curl pattern and left with hair that dries straight on its own. The result is permanent on the treated length — the only maintenance is a root service as new growth comes through.

Because the hair is restructured rather than stripped, condition matters more than curl type. That's why we test a strand before committing to the full head.

The process

How Japanese straightening works, step by step

01

Consultation & strand test

We read your curl pattern, previous colour or relaxer history, porosity and breakage risk. A strand test tells us how your hair reacts before anything is applied to the whole head. If your hair isn't a safe candidate that day, we say so and suggest keratin instead.

02

Cleanse & thermal reconstructor

A clarifying wash removes buildup so the solution can work evenly. A protein reconstructor is applied to porous mid-lengths and ends so the chemistry lands consistently from root to tip.

03

Softening (cysteine bond break)

The straightening cream is applied section by section and timed to your hair's strength — not to a stopwatch. This is the stage most damage happens elsewhere; we check strand elasticity throughout instead of leaving it processing.

04

Flat-iron restructuring

Hair is dried and pressed in fine sections at a controlled temperature. This is the step that sets the new straight configuration, so section size, tension and heat matter more than speed.

05

Neutraliser & seal

A neutraliser rebuilds the bonds in their new shape, followed by an acidic rinse and a deep treatment to close the cuticle and return shine.

06

Aftercare plan

No washing, tying or clipping for 48 hours. Sulphate-free shampoo after that, and root touch-ups roughly every 6–9 months as new growth comes through — the treated hair stays straight permanently.

Hair health first

We'll tell you when it isn't the right service.

  • Good candidates: curly, coily, wavy or frizz-prone hair in reasonable condition, including virgin hair and hair with gentle colour.
  • Needs caution: heavily bleached or highlighted hair, previously relaxed hair, or hair with existing breakage. We strand test, and we will recommend a keratin treatment or a repair plan instead if that's the safer call.
  • Timing with colour: we space colour and straightening apart rather than stacking them in one visit, so the hair isn't asked to take two chemical services at once.

Questions

Japanese straightening, answered

Is Japanese hair straightening the same as a relaxer or keratin?

No. A relaxer strips the hair to loosen curl and a keratin treatment coats and smooths it temporarily. Japanese straightening (also called thermal reconditioning or Magic straight) permanently restructures the bonds inside the hair, so the treated length stays straight until it grows out.

How much does Japanese straightening cost in Carrollton?

At Dass Hair Salon it starts at $250. The final price depends on hair length, density, curl tightness and condition, and is confirmed at consultation.

How long does the appointment take?

Plan on roughly 4 to 6 hours depending on length and density. Book early in the day — we don't rush texture services.

How long does it last?

Permanently on the hair that was treated. You'll only need root work as new growth appears, usually every 6 to 9 months.

Can I get it if my hair is coloured, highlighted or bleached?

Often yes, but not always. Heavily bleached or previously relaxed hair carries real breakage risk, which is why we strand test first and will decline the service if it isn't safe for your hair.

Do you work with curly, coily and African-American hair?

Yes. Our stylists work with Asian, curly and African-American textures daily, and the service is planned specifically for tight, resistant curl patterns.

Do you serve clients from Dallas and the wider DFW area?

Yes. We're in the Korean Mall on Old Denton Rd in Carrollton, an easy drive from Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Lewisville, Addison, Richardson and Coppell.
